Pell Grant For Single Mothers

If you are a single mother wanting to go back to school then you may be able to qualify for a Pell Grant.  The Pell Grant is able to provide financial assistance for low income single mothers wanting to go back to school to receive their college degree.

In order for single mothers to qualify for a Pell Grant they must meet specific Pell Grant requirements.  Itís important to note that single mothers who have already received a baccalaureate degree are not eligible for a Pell Grant.  The Pell Grant is only available to first time single mother students pursuing their first bachelors degree.
Single mothers must also attend a Title IV institution in order to be eligible for a Pell Grant.  Title IV is the name of the laws and regulations governing the Federal Student Aid Programs.  Schools must apply to participate in the programs, and there numerous laws and regulations that govern them.   To stay eligible for Title IV programs, schools must follow these laws and stay up to date on any new regulations. All of the Title IV regulations are public information and can be easily accessible through the internet.  Your school is also required to have this information on file.

Single mothers must also complete the FAFSA, free application for Federal Student Aid if they are interested in receiving a Pell Grant.  The FAFSA takes into account income, assets, and other non-quantitative measures, such as the number of family members attending college.

When the FAFSA application has been submitted to the Department of Education then a SAR (Student Aid Report) will be distributed.  This report will determine how much a single mother is expected to contribute towards their education.  A low score means that there is a higher probability of receiving some form of financial aid.

Please note that other individuals besides single mothers can qualify for a Pell Grant.  As long as you are considered low income and meet the other Pell Grant qualifications, then you should apply for the Pell Grant.

Single Mothers should take advantage of the great opportunity that is given to them by the federal government.  Itís not often that people have the opportunity to receive a free education with nothing in return.  During these tough economic times, itís important to receive the necessary skills to move ahead in life.  These skills learned in school will allow many single mothers to improve their overall standard of living.
